Social Responsibility

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." – Winston Churchill.

Being Socially Responsible means that people and organizations must behave ethically and with sensitivity towards social, cultural, economic and environmental issues. Striving for social responsibility helps individuals, organizations and governments have a positive impact on development, business and society with a positive contribution to bottom-line results.

Professional Passenger Services and the people who make up our company understand that business is not only about the bottom line, it’s about being of service and making value out of life. We are therefore committed to random acts of kindness in order to live up to the standard of being a socially responsible corporate citizen

Our social responsibility program involves three organizations, each very diverse from the next, fulfilling much needed and valued roles in our communities and we are proud to be involved with each one of them.

Khusi Hona

Khusi Hona

Khusi Hona, an organisation dedicated to empowering orphaned and abandoned children to reach their full potential. Our aim is to help provide for orphanages and children's homes by funding projects such as healthcare, nutrition, sanitation, sustainability, education, facility development, and ultimately happiness. Khusi Hona social entrepreneur leadership and volunteers bring needed skills to many of the projects we support and develop. Khusi Hona is working to create more opportunities and a better life for orphans and abandoned children in need.

AAAKEE

AAAKEE

Established in 2004, Abused and Abandoned Kids Educational Excursions (better known as AAAKEE) is a South African Public Benefit Organisation, incorporated as a Non Profit Company. We provide educational excursions around South Africa for various foundations occupied by children who are disadvantaged, having been abused and abandoned - lost. These excursions, as much as they may be educational, are also intended to enrich these childrens' lives with fun, entertainment, and excitement - a core value in the life of any child.

By using this strategy, these children can learn common principles, and have fun at the same time.

Apart from the educational and enjoyable excursions, we also have several sponsors funding food, toys, and clothing. In many cases, these children, amongst millions of others in South Africa, have not ever felt the privilege of such benefits which are provided at excursions and visits to homes, as well as at our seasonal events.

Headed by Mr Luiz De Gouveia, and two other directors, AAAKEE has become a mature organisation in the field of making a difference in the lives of South African children.

Food & Trees for Africa

Food & Trees for Africa

Professional Passenger Services is concerned about the future of our planet Earth and more so because the nature of our service leaves an immense carbon footprint in our trail.  So much so that it did not take much explaining or convincing to get us to take action in order to urgently reduce this footprint and offset our carbon trail, so a partnership with Food & Trees for Africa was the recognized and effective way forward.

Founded in 1990 by Jeunesse Park, who gathered a group of concerned individuals, representing the then major greening organisations in South Africa, who came together with the realisation that the real environmental crisis in this country centred on people, uplifting quality of life and addressing climate change. They recognized that a simple way of achieving this was through the greening of unhealthy, denuded and degraded landscapes. This was the birth of Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA), the first (and still only) South African social enterprise that develops, promotes and facilitates greening, climate change action, food security and sustainable natural resource use and management, known as Trees for Africa until 2000.

Since then FTFA has assisted tens of thousands of people and remained in touch and often ahead of South Africa's democratic and more sustainable development.

eDeaf

eDeaf

eDeaf unleashes the social and economic empowerment of the Deaf community, through a diversity of talents and skills, thereby adding value to the economy and enhancing the lives of the deaf.

The Deaf community is one of the most marginalized groups in South Africa. Because of the fact that they cannot communicate freely with the hearing world, they are often regarded as incompetent or not intelligent, and not fit to be employed. This is far from the truth! The deaf community is full of human beings who are uniquely gifted and capable of doing far beyond many social boundaries.

Several local companies have taken the brave step of employing Deaf persons with great success, proving that in some career fields the Deaf can be just as good as or even better than hearing employees.
